The LNG industry in Texas is subject to the oversight of several federal and state agencies involved in regulating air and water resources. Freeport LNG believes in exercising transparency, especially in matters of compliance.

Freeport LNG has received permits from and continues to cooperate with the following agencies to ensure that its construction and operations are compliant with relevant laws and regulations:


Federal Energy Regulatory Commission

The United States Coast Guard

Freeport LNG is working closely with the USCG to establish key operational and maritime security parameters for operation of its LNG facility.


The United States Department of Transportation

The United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) regulates the transportation of natural gas by pipeline and certain components of LNG terminal facilities.


The United States Army Corps of Engineers

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) regulates activities associated with the development of FLNG facilities under the Clean Water Act (CWA) including permitting, jurisdictional wetlands and waterbodies impacts and mitigation, dredging and dredged material placement areas, and storm and flood protection systems.
